- Why we need to pre-treat in ACS patient?
Definition:
Pre-treatment: an antiplatelet drug, such as P2Y12 inhibitor drug, is
given before coronary angiography is performed.
(administration of a P2Y12 inhibitor in the ambulance (pre-hospital setting),
in the emergency department, CCU, or in cath.lab before coronary
angiography is performed, not immediately before a PCI)
Rationale:
• To allow time for the drug to achieve full efficacy prior to
performing PCI for patients who will require stenting
• To provide antithrombotic protection against death/MI at the
time of greatest thrombotic risk
