Nội dung Text: Final examination semester 2 academic year 2019-2020 course name: Design of steel structures II (Exam 2)- ĐH Sư phạm Kỹ thuật
HCMC UNIVERSITY OF FINAL EXAMINATION
TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION SEMESTER 2 – ACADEMIC YEAR 2019-2020
Faculty for High Quality Training Course name: Design of Steel Structures II
Program name: Construction Engineering Course ID: DESS333617E
Technology
Exam code: ................ .............. Number of pages: 02
Duration: 70 minutes.
Open-book.
ANSWERS:
Question 1: (4/10pts)
a. Arrange column layout (1.0pt)
- For the present building, steel column bay shouldn’t smaller than 5m and it should be
modularised.
- Columns should be arranged in the boundaries of the building including in the gable.
b. Arrange roof purlin and girt (1.0pt)
- For cold-rolled purlin and girt to support the profiled sheeting and insulation, its bay should
be smaller 2.0m and modularised.
c. Arrange bracing system for roof and column plans (1.0pt)
- Bracing system for roof and column elevation should be arranged at the gables and along the
building to support the wind load
- Distance between two bracing systems should be smaller than 30m
d. Verify cross-section of the girt (1.0pt).
The following information should be presented:
- Choose structure diagram
- Calculate loads on the girt (dead load and wind load)
- Verify cross-section of the girt with respect to the stress and deflection.
Question 2: (5/10pts)
a. Dead load (1.0pt)
Dead load applied on the frame is composed of
- cladding with sheeting and insulation
- purlin and girt
- bracing system.
These static loads should be transformed into uniformly distributed ones and then linearly
distributed and demonstrated on the transverse frame.
b. Roof live load (1.0pt)
Standard roof live load is 30 daN/m2. It will be uniformly distributed on the transverse frame.
c. Crane load (1.0pt)
The following steps should be presented:
- draw influence lines for computation of crane pressures on the bracket beam
- arrange vertical and horizontal pressures at wheel on the influence lines by supposing that
the building have two crane bridges.
- calculate vertical and horizontal pressures on the bracket beams and demonstrate them on
the structure diagram of the frame

d. Wind load (1.0pt)
The following information should be presented:
- Determine aerodynamic coefficicients from the frame geometry
- Calculate and demonstrated wind load on the frame by noting that the building is
constructed in HCMC (W0=83daN/m2).
e. By neglecting the crane load, propose significant load combinations for modelling the
building (1.0pt)
The significant combination loads are derived from mixtures of DL (dead load), LL1 (roof
live load on left side), LL2 (roof live load on right side), LL (full roof live load), WL1 (left
wind load), WL2 (right wind load).
Question 3: (1/10pts)
A following typical connection of column and rafter is recommended:
