I. Objectives.
After the lesson Ss will be able to get acquainted with the
disease “ The common cold” They will learn about the
symptoms and how to prevent the cold .
-To drill Ss reading skills.

2. Oral test:
- Do exercise B 2+3+4( page 72+73 ) in the work book .
3. New lesson.
A. Warm up.
- Ask Ss to play “Rub out and remember” with the words about
the diseases.
- - Headache. - Flu - Toothache -
Stomachache -Cold
B. Pre- reading.
- Ask Ss to give the most common disease .- Hang the picture
and ask the question.
- What are the symptoms of the common cold ?
- Give the meaning of the words symptom
Symptom: triệu chứng.
- Ask Ss to give the answer in Viet namese if nesessary.
sổ mũi : a running nose. sốt nhẹ: a slight
fever
hắt hơi: sneezing .
ho : coughing
- Ask Ss to prepare to read the reading .
C. While- reading.
- Ask Ss to read the reading in silence and ask Ss to give the
topic of the reading.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to answer the questions in the text
book.
- - Ask Ss to share the answer theanswers and read the answers
aloud.
a). We call the cold “common “ because every year
millions of people catch it.
b) They are : running nose, a slight fever, coughing and
sneezing.
c) No, there is no cure for the common cold.
d) no, these medicines don’t cure a cold, but they relieve the
symptoms.
e) We can prevent the cold by eating well, doing exercise,
keeping fit and stay healthy.
- Check if necessary.
-Give the meaning of the new words:
Disease: bệnh. Common: chung
Catch: nhiễm, bị mắc bệnh Cure: chữa, phương pháp
chữa bệnh
Unpleasant: không thoải mái cửa hàng
Drugstore;
thuốc
Medicines: thuốc. Relieve: làm dụi, bớt đi.
- Disappear: biến mất Prevent: phòng tránh
-Ask Ss to read the reading aloud in turn.
D.Post- reading.
-Ask Ss to list the symptom of the common cold , the way to
cure and the way to prevent the common cold ( book closed )
4. Consolidation
- Note the main content of the reading: the symptom, the cures,
the way to prevent the cold.
5. Home work .
- Read the reading and say somethings about the common
cold.
- Prepare the new lesson.
