Abstract; Mjilaysia is a multi-ethnic, multilingual and multi-cultural country with three<br />
nain ethnic communities: Malay, Chinese and Indian (of w*ich the majority are Tamils).<br />
Mthough, Malay was declared by consitution as the national language, but the Malaysian<br />
language policy does not take aways die rightful position of oflier languages in the socie^.<br />
rhis article addresses the following issues: 1/The legal basis for inclusion of Chinese and<br />
Famil in teaching within schools in Malaysia; 2/CuiTent situation of teaching Chinese and<br />
lamil in Malaysian schools; 3/Overall assessment.<br />
