This study investigates the relationship between green bank regulation and global bank geographic complexity using data from 121 countries spanning the period 1996 to 2021. By examining the affiliate networks of internationally active banking organizations, we construct a comprehensive measure of bank geographic complexity for each country.

The world is becoming increasingly focused on an imperative to reduce the cost of services. Managers at this cutting edge of practical organizational development are trying many ways to achieve this. The major focus of this research uses a systems psychodynamic approach to investigate the role taken up by part-time contract managers in an Australian university. These part-time roles frequently fail in the longer term. This approach provides an understanding of the unconscious group dynamics that may cause the role to fail.

The two group I introns Nae.L1926 and Nmo.L2563, found at two different sites in nuclear LSU rRNA genes of Naegleria amoebo-flagellates, have been characterized in vitro. Their structural organization is related to that of the mobile Physarum intron Ppo.L1925 (PpLSU3) with ORFs extending the L1-loop of a typical group IC1 ribozyme. Nae.L1926, Nmo.L2563 and Ppo.L1925 RNAs all selfsplice in vitro, generating ligated exons and full-length intron circles as well as internal processed excised intron RNAs....

Prolamellar bodies (PLB) contain two photochemically active forms of the enzyme protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase POR-PChlide640 and POR-PChlide650 (the spectral forms of POR-Chlide complexes with absorption maxima at the indicated wavelengths). Resuspension of maize PLB in media with a pH below 6.8 leads to a rapid conversion of POR-PChlide650 to POR-PChlide640 and a dramatic re-organization of the PLB membrane system. In the absence of excess NADPH, the absorption maximum of the POR complex undergoes a further shift to about 635 nm....

The centromere–kinetochore complex is a highly specialized chromatin domain that both mediates and monitors chromosome–spindle interactions responsible for accurate partitioning of sister chromatids to daughter cells. Centromeres are distinguished from adjacent chromatin by specific patterns of histone modification and the presence of a centromere-specific histone H3 variant (e.g. CENP-A). Centromere-proximal regions usually correspond to sites of avid and persistent sister chromatid cohesion mediated by the conserved cohesin complex.

The core complex ofRhodobacter sphaeroidesis formed by the association of the light-harvesting antenna 1 (LH1) and the reaction center (RC). The PufX protein is essential for photosynthetic growth; it is locatedwithin the core in a 1 : 1 stoichiometry with the RC. PufX is required for a fast ubiquinol exchange between the QBsite of the RC and the Qo site of the cytochromebc1complex.

The oxygen-evolving photosystem II (PS II) complex of red algae contains four extrinsic proteins of 12 kDa, 20 kDa, 33 kDa and cytc-550, among which the 20 kDa protein is unique in that it is not found in other organisms. We cloned the gene for the 20-kDa protein from a red algaCyanidium caldarium. The gene consists of a leader sequence which can be divided into two parts: one for transfer across the plastid envelope and the other for transfer into thylakoid lumen, indicating that the gene is encoded by the nuclear genome....

Biotin protein ligase (BPL) catalyses the biotinylation of the biotin carboxyl carrier protein (BCCP) subunit of acetyl CoAcarboxylase and this post-translational modificationof a single lysine residue is exceptionally specific. The exact details of the protein–protein interactions involved are unclear as a BPL:BCCP complex has not yet been isolated. Moreover, detailed information is lacking on the composi-tion, biosynthesis and role of fatty acids in hyperthermo-philic organisms.

Multi-protein complexes are emerging as important entities of biological activity inside cells that serve to create func-tional diversity by contextual combination of gene products and, at the same time, organize the large number of different proteins into functional units. Many a time, when studying protein complexes rather than individual proteins, the bio-logical insight gained has been fundamental, particularly in cases in which proteins with no previous functional anno-tation couldbe placed intoa functional context derived from theirmolecular environment. ...

All higher organisms divide major biochemical steps into different cellular compartments and often use tissue-specific division of metabolism for the same purpose.Such spatial resolution is accompanied with temporal changes of meta-bolite synthesis in response to environmental stimuli or developmental needs.Although analyses of primary and secondary gene products, i.e. transcripts, proteins, and metabolites, regularly do not cope with this spatial and temporal resolution, these gene products are often observed to be highly coregulated forming complex networks....

It has been shown previously in various organisms that the peroxin PEX14 is a component of a docking complex at the peroxisomalmembrane, where it is involved in the import of matrix proteins into the organelle after their synthesis in the cytosol and recognition by a receptor. Here we present a characterization of theTrypanosoma bruceihomologue of PEX14. It is shown that the protein is associated with gly-cosomes,the peroxisome-like organelles of trypanosomatids in which most glycolytic enzymes are compartmentalized....

Proteins participate in complex sets of interactions that represent the mech-anistic foundation for much of the physiology and function of the cell. These protein–protein interactions are organized into exquisitely complex networks. The architecture of protein–protein interaction networks was recently proposed to be scale-free, with most of the proteins having only one or two connections but with relatively fewer ‘hubs’ possessing tens, hundreds or more links.

In eukaryotes, pre-rRNA processing depends on a large number of non-ribosomal trans-acting factors that form large and intriguingly organized complexes. A novel nucleolar protein, Nop53p, was isolated by using Nop17p as bait in the yeast two-hybrid system. Nop53p also interacts with a second nucleolar protein, Nip7p. A carbon source-conditional strain with the NOP53coding sequence under the control of theGAL1promoter did not grow in glucose-containing medium, showing the phenotype of an essential gene. ...

The highly conserved, atypical RIO serine protein kinases are found in all organisms, from archaea to man. In yeast, the kinase activity of Rio2 is necessary for the final processing step of maturing the 18S ribosomal rRNA. We have previously shown that the Rio2 protein from Archaeo-globus fulgidus contains both a small kinase domain and an N-terminal winged helix domain.

The leukocyte-derived arginine aminopeptidase (L-RAP) is the second ami-nopeptidase localized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) processing anti-genic peptides presented to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules. In this study, the genomic organization of the gene encoding human L-RAP was determined and the regulatory mechanism of its expres-sion was elucidated.

Heme oxygenase (HO) catalyzes the oxidative degradation of heme utilizing molecular oxygen and reducing equiva-lents. In photosynthetic organisms, HO functions in the biosynthesis of such open-chain tetrapyrroles as phyto-chromobilin and phycobilins, which are involved in the sig-nal transduction for light responses and light harvesting for photosynthesis, respectively.

Mitochondrialb-oxidation is a complex pathway involving, in the case of saturated straight chain fatty acids of even carbonnumber, at least 16proteinswhichare organized into two functional subdomains; one associated with the inner face of the inner mitochondrial membrane and the other in the matrix. Overall, the pathway is subject to intramito-chondrial control at multiple sites. However, at least in the liver, carnitine palmitoyl transferase I exerts approximately 80% of control over pathway flux under normal conditions....

Crustacean growth and development is characterized by periodic shedding (ecdysis) and replacement of the rigid exoskeleton. Secretions of the X-organ sinus gland complex control the cellular events that lead to growth and molting. Western blot and ELISA results showed a progressive increase in growth arrest-specific protein (Gas7) from early postmolt stage to a maximum at late postmolt stage.
