Describe the family

Jasminum binhchauense, a new species of the family Oleaceae, is described and illustrated. The species was collected during 2022–2023 from Binh Chau-Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, Ba RiaVung Tau province, southern Vietnam. The new species differs from its congeners in its branchlets, leaf blade, petioles and calyx. A taxonomic description, a table comparing morphological characters of the allied species, and illustrations, a color photo-plate are provided.

2’,3’-Dideoxynucleosides (ddNs) are the most important class of compounds active against HIV/AIDS. They act as DNA chain terminators and competitive inhibitors of viral reverse transcriptase (RT). Currently, stavudine (d4T, Zerit) is one six drugs belonging to the ddNs family that are approved by the FDA. This article describes the synthesis of generic stavudine drug from thymidine in three steps. By mean of this synthesis, stavudine was obtained in a good yield. The structure of product and intermediate were established by NMR spectroscopies.

In this study we describe the isolation of three genes of the CYP11B family of the guinea pig. CYP11B1 codes for the previously described 11b-hydroxylase [Bulow, H.E., Mobius, ¨ ¨ K., Bahr, V. & Bernhardt, R. (1996) Biochem. Biophys. Res. ¨ Commun. 221, 304–312] while CYP11B2 represents the aldosterone synthase gene. As no expression for CYP11B3 was detected this gene might represent a pseudogene.

The siglecs (sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectins) are a distinct subset of the Ig superfamily with adhesion-molecule-like structure. We describe here a novel member of the siglec protein family that shares a similar structure including five Ig-like domains, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail containing two ITIM-signaling motifs. Siglec10 was identified through database mining of an asthmatic eosinophil EST library. Using the Stanford G3 radiation hybrid panel we were able to localize the genomic sequence of siglec-10 within the cluster of genes on chromosome 19q13.

We report the biochemical characterization of calhepatin, a calcium-binding protein of the S100 family, isolated from lungfish (Lepidosiren paradoxa) liver. The primary structure, determined by Edman degradation and MS/MS, shows that the sequence identities with the other members of the family are lower than those between S100 proteins from different species. Calhepatin is composed of 75 residues and has a molecular mass of 8670 Da. It is smaller than calbindin D9k (78 residues), the smallest S100 described so far....

BP-23 recombinant clone coding for a previously described endoglucanase revealed the presence of an additional truncated ORF with homology to family 48 glycosyl hydrolases. The folding of a 93-residue protein, the histidine-phospho-carrier protein ofStreptomyces coelicolor,HPr,hasbeen studied using several biophysical techniques, namely fluo-rescence, 8-anilinonaphthalene-1-sulfate binding, circular dichroism, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gel filtration chromatography and differential scanning calori-metry. The chemical-denaturation behaviour of HPr, fol-lowed by fluorescence, CD and gel filtration, at pH 7.5 and 25

Much of the basic biochemistry of antiplasmin was described more than 20 years ago and yet it remains an enigmatic member of the serine protease inhibitor (serpin) family. It possesses all of the characteristics of other inhibitory serpins but in addition it has unique N- and C-terminal exten-sions which significantly modify its activities. The N-terminus serves as a substrate for Factor XIIIa leading to crosslinking and incorporation of antiplasmin into a clot as it is formed.

Numerous adhesion molecules have been described, and the molecular mechanisms of lymphocyte trafficking across the endothelium is starting to be elucidated. Identification of the molecules involved in the organoselec-tivity of this process would help in the targeting of drug therapy to specific tissues. Adhesion-regulating molecule-1 (ARM-1) is an adhesion-regulating molecule previously identified on T cells. It does not belong to any known families of adhesion molecules.

This work presents a computational analysis of the molecular characteris-tics shared by the adenylation domains from traditional nonribosomal pep-tide synthetases (NRPSs) and the group of the freestanding homologous enzymes: a-aminoadipate semialdehyde dehydrogenase, a-aminoadipate reductase and the protein Ebony. The results of systematic sequence com-parisons allow us to conclude that a specificity-conferring code, similar to that described for the NRPSs, can be recognized in such enzymes.

The cloning of two novel genes that encode cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase (CKX) in barley is described in this work. Transformation of both genes intoArabidopsisand tobacco showed that at least one of the genes codes for a functional enzyme, as its expression caused a cytokinin-deficient phenotype in the heterologous host plants. We describe a strategy for systematic amplification of chitin synthase genes (chs) in the filamentous ascomycetes plant-pathogenBotrytis cinereausing PCR with multiple degen-erate primers designed on specific and conserved sequence motifs. Eight distinctchsgeneswere isolated, namedBcchs I, II, IIIa, IIIb, IV, V, VIandVII. They probably constitute the entire chsmultigenic family of this fungus, as revealed by careful analysis of six euascomycetes genomes.

Genomic sequencing of the methanotrophic bacterium,Methylococcus cap-sulatus (Bath), revealed an open reading frame (MCA2590) immediately upstream of the previously described mopEgene (MCA2589). Sequence analyses of the deduced amino acid sequence demonstrated that the MCA2590-encoded protein shared significant, but restricted, sequence simi-larity to the bacterial di-heme cytochrome c peroxidase (BCCP) family of proteins.
