Since the early days, natural products have played a significant role in drug discovery and development. However, the extraction process of these compounds often includes many complex steps, consumes a lot of energy and a large volume of solvents, which can have a significant impact on the environment as well as human health. Therefore, it is necessary to find better ways to improve the yield of extraction, while minimizing risks that may affect the environment and humans.

Quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR) paired with stem-loop was utilized in this study to establish a process for detecting miRNA-425-5p in human plasma, contributing to accurate prognosis and early diagnosis of genetic diseases in humans, especially cancer diseases. Blood samples (n=12) collected from healthy volunteers in Ho Chi Minh City, were subjected to plasma extraction and then microRNA (miRNAs) isolation using the TRIzol method.

The first humanlike creatures appeared in Africa four million years ago. Early humans left no written records. Without such records, archaeologists and anthropologists have had to rely on fossils, artifacts, and skeletal remains to develop theories about their lives. Researchers have concluded that the earliest humans lived as hunters and gatherers and focused on basic needs. Only millions of years later did they develop the skills and tools necessary to engage in agriculture and to build the first civilizations.

Many East Asian economies experienced rapid economic growth since the early 1960’s, with Singapore and Malaysia being two of the best performers. Various factors have contributed to this growth. They include export-orientated policies, capital investment, a market-friendly approach and an institutional regulatory framework that attracts foreign investors. Another factor is the role of human capital in the form of formal and informal education. Human capital has been researched at both the theoretical and empirical levels.

The human immunodeficiency virus type 1, HIV-1, genome encodes a highly conserved regulatory gene product, Vpr (96 amino acids), which is incorporated into virions in quantities equivalent to those of the viral Gag protein. In infected cells, Vpr is believed to function during the early stages of HIV-1 replication (such as transcription of the proviral genome and migration of preintegration nuclear complex), blocks cells in G2 phase and triggers apoptosis.

Galactokinase (EC 2.7.1.6) catalyzes the first committed step in the catabolism of galactose. The sugar is phosphor-ylated at position 1 at the expense of ATP. Lack of fully functional galactokinase is one cause of the inherited disease galactosemia, the main clinical manifestation of which is early onset cataracts. Human galactokinase (GALK1) was expressed in and purified fromEscherichia coli. The recom-binant enzyme was both soluble and active.

Viral subversion of apoptosis regulation plays an important role in the outcome of host⁄virus interactions. Although human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) encodes several immediate early (IE) antiapoptotic proteins (IE1, IE2, vMIA and vICA), no proapoptotic HCMV protein has yet been iden-tified. Here we show that US28, a functional IE HCMV-encoded chemo-kine receptor, which may be involved in both viral dissemination and immune evasion, constitutively induces apoptosis in several cell types.

Base excision repair (BER), a major pathway for the removal of simple lesions in DNA, requires the co-ordinated action of several repair and ancillary proteins, the impairment of which can lead to genetic instability. We here address the role of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1) in BER. Using anin vitro cross-linking assay, we reveal that PARP-1 is always involved in repair of a uracil-containing oligonucleotide and that it binds to the damaged DNA during the early stages of repair.

Three novel CXC chemokines were identified in common carp (Cyprinus carpioL.) through homology cloning. Phy-logenetic analyses show that one of the three CXC chemo-kines is an unambiguous orthologue ofCXCL14,whereas both others are orthologues ofCXCL12,and were named CXCL12aandCXCL12b. Percentages of amino acid iden-tity between each of these carp chemokines and their human and mouse orthologues are markedly higher than those reported previously for other carp CXC chemokines, sug-gestive of involvement invital processes, whichhave allowed for relatively few structural changes. ...

The cytomegalovirus immediate-early (CMV IE) gene enhancer/promoter regulates the expression of immediate-early gene products and initiation of CMV replication. TNF-aand lipopolysaccharide (LPS) strongly activate the promoter, possibly involving NF-jB. CpG-oligodeoxy-nucleotides (CpG-ODNs), which contain unmethylated CpG dinucleotides in the context of particular base sequences, havegainedattentionbecauseof their stimulating effects, via NF-jB, which have a strong innate immune response.

The contributions of human DNA polymerases (pols)a, dande during S-phase progression were studied in order to elaborate how these enzymes co-ordinate their functions during nuclear DNA replication. Pol d was three to four times more intensely UV cross-linked to nascent DNA in late compared with early S phase, whereas the cross-linking of pols aande remained nearly constant throughout the S phase.

Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) has been the focus of a number of stu-dies due to its ability to promote septic shock and a massive impact on the human immune system. Even though symptoms and pathology associated with SEB is well known, early molecular events that lead to lethality are still poorly understood.

Complex IV is the terminal enzyme of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. In humans, biogenesis of complex IV involves the coordinated assembly of 13 subunits encoded by both mitochondrial and nuclear genomes. The early stages of complex IV assembly involving mitochondrial DNA-encoded subunits CO1 and CO2 have been well studied.

Current evidence indicates that chylomicron remnants (CMR) induce macrophage foam cell formation, an early event in atherosclerosis. Inflam-mation also plays a part in atherogenesis and the transcription factor nuclear factor-jB (NF-jB) has been implicated. In this study, the influence of CMR on the activity of NF-jB in macrophages and its modulation by the fatty acid composition of the particles were investigated using macro-phages derived from the human monocyte cell line THP-1 and CMR-like particles (CRLPs)....
