Effectively use FDI

A salient way used to determine those effects is assessing the HDI (Human Development Index) of host country before and after receiving the foreign direct investment. HDI is calculated with regards to three aspects of education, longevity and income. Although, until now, HDI has its own drawbacks that need special attention. Therefore, since 2010, a new measurement called Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI) has been created and calculated by United Nations Development Program.

This study is conducted to answer the question of whether the presence of FDI enterprises affects the survival of domestic firms or not. The authors apply the logistic regression model to analyze this crowding out effect, using the case of the textile and garment processing industry, which has a key role in Vietnamese manufacturing, industry and which also has attracted a large amount of FDI in recent years.

The thesis aims to systematize the theory of FDI, macroeconomic fluctuations and the impact of FDI on macroeconomic fluctuations in an economy; analyze and assess the status of FDI attraction and use, the situation of macroeconomic fluctuations; propose solutions to attract, manage and effectively use FDI, taking advantage of the positive and drought effects of FDI on the macroeconomic situation in Vietnam.
