This thesis deals with the finite element simulation of spot welded joint in crash analysis. Spot welding is a very common joining process in the automotive industry. It is cost effective and it provides a very fast production rate of automotive body components. Despite this advantage, spot welds are very susceptible to various types of loading conditions. Therefore they are prone to failure, if not designed properly, during their service life time. Therefore it is very important to understand the behaviour of spot welds and their failure characteristics.

A retaining wall constructed on expansive soil can be subjected to lateral swelling pressures due to soil swelling, which may cause a significant horizontal deformation and bending of the retaining wall. In Australia, it is generally assumed that the backfill behind a retaining wall is non-expansive material. Therefore lateral swelling pressures induced by expansive soils are ignored in routine design.

The calculations showed that the results are comparable to the best MOFs for the hydrogen storage up to date. The results also elucidated that the gravimetric hydrogen uptakes depend on the special surface area and pore volume of the MIL-88s. These important structural features, if properly improved, lead to an increase in the capability of hydrogen storage in MIL-88s.

This study synthesizes the use of chemicals to prevent one of common concrete durability problems, alkali-silica reaction (ASR), and can help researchers (i) identify widely used potential chemicals and evaluate these chemical solutions to prevent ASR with proper understanding of mechanisms, and (ii) to identify the research gaps in order to develop guidelines and implementation plan on the use of these chemicals for future research.

Post-earthquake observations showed that damages in steel structures were mostly due to poor construction quality including lack of proper welding in connections, extent of irregularities of the structural system, false structural design, local site effects, and finally lack of enough supervision by "Iran Construction Engineering Organization" (IRCEO) and other responsible organizations. In this paper, observed damages to steel structures were examined and explaneed in detail.
