Flavonoids, a diverse group of secondary metabolites, are known for their health-promoting properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. Phyllanthus amarus is a medicinal plant with extensive traditional use and it is a rich source of flavonoids. This study aimed to elucidate the gene expression in flavonoid biosynthesis in P. amarus.

One of the main objectives for this thesis is to provide an extensive literature review on the knowledge of the failure of trees in general and specifically Eucalyptus. By doing so, gaps in the literature and research will be revealed and then the remaining objectives will be selected experimental work filling the gaps for Eucalypts.

A clear difference in the enthalpy changes derived from spectroscopic and calorimetric measurements has recently been shown. The exact interpretation of this deviation varied from study to study, but it was generally attributed to the non-two-state transition and heat capacity change. Although the temperature-dependent thermodynamics of the duplex formation was often implied, systemic and extensive studies have been lacking in universally assigning the appropriate thermodynamic parameter sets.

Expansins are a family of proteins that catalyze pHdependent long-term extension of isolated plant cell walls. They are divided into two groups, a and b, the latter consisting of the grass group I pollen allergens and their vegetative homologs. Expansins are suggested to mediate plant cell growth by interfering with either structural proteins or the polysaccharide network in the cell wall.

Fluorescent and colored trinitrophenylated (TNP) analogs of ATP and GTP can interact with nucleotide-requiring enzymes and proteins as a substitute for the parent nucleo-tide. These analogs have strong binding affinities for most nucleotide-requiring systems. Their bindings are easily detected by absorption and fluorescence changes in the visi-ble region.Recent years have seendramatic developments in the application of the TNP nucleotide analogs as spectro-scopic probes for the study on the nucleotide-interacting properties of various enzymes and proteins including their mutants.

A naturally occurring variant of the human androgen receptor (AR) named AR45 has been identified. It lacks the entire region encoded by exon 1 of the ARgene and is composed of the AR DNA-binding domain, hinge region and ligand-binding domain, preceded by a novel seven amino-acid long N-terminal extension. A survey of human tissues revealed that AR45 was expressed mainly in heart and skeletal muscle. In cotransfection experiments, AR45 inhibited AR function, an effect necessitating intact DNA- and ligand-binding properties. ...

Oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (OPMD) is an autosomal dominant disease that usually manifests itself within the fifth decade. The most prom-inent symptoms are progressive ptosis, dysphagia, and proximal limb mus-cle weakness. The disorder is caused by trinucleotide (GCG) expansions in the N-terminal part of the poly(A)-binding protein 1 (PABPN1) that result in the extension of a 10-alanine segment by up to seven more alanines.

The family of chromodepsipeptides constitutes a class of structurally related pseudosymmetrical peptidolactones and peptidothiolactones synthe-sized by nonribosomal peptide synthetases. The chromodepsipeptides, which are analogous to the extensively characterized echinomycin, attain their DNA-bisintercalating properties from chromophore moieties attached to the N-termini of the oligopeptide chain.

Let A be an n × n matrix, whose entries are independent copies of a centered random variable satisfying the subgaussian tail estimate. We prove that the operator norm of A−1 does not exceed Cn3/2 with probability close to 1. 1. Introduction Let A be an n × n matrix, whose entries are independent, identically distributed random variables. The spectral properties of such matrices, in particular invertibility, have been extensively studied (see, e.g. [M] and the survey [DS]).

We prove that a nonrenormalizable smooth unimodal interval map with critical order between 1 and 2 displays decay of geometry, by an elementary and purely “real” argument. This completes a “real” approach to Milnor’s attractor problem for smooth unimodal maps with critical order not greater than 2. 1. Introduction The dynamical properties of unimodal interval maps have been extensively studied recently. A major breakthrough is a complete solution of Milnor’s attractor problem for smooth unimodal maps with quadratic critical points. ...

In this paper we show that an odd Galois representation ρ : Gal(Q/Q) → ¯ GL2 (F9 ) having nonsolvable image and satisfying certain local conditions at 3 and 5 is modular. Our main tools are ideas of Taylor [21] and Khare [10], which reduce the problem to that of exhibiting points on a Hilbert modular surface which are defined over a solvable extension of Q, and which satisfy certain reduction properties. As a corollary, we show that Hilbert-Blumenthal abelian surfaces with ordinary reduction at 3 and 5 are modular. ...

What makes work with rational numbers and integers comfortable are the essential properties they have, especially the unique factorization property (the Main Theorem of Arithmetic). However, the might of the arithmetic in Q is bounded. Thus, some polynomials, although they have zeros, cannot be factorized into polynomials with rational coefficients.
