This study aims to determine the various strains of yeast and filamentous fungi in traditional alcohol yeast cake from Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province. By traditional laboratory techniques such as isolation on YPD agar, observation of colony morphology as well as cell characteristics by microscopy, combined with molecular biology method to sequence ITS region 03 strains of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae CN1, CN2, and NM3 were identified: 01 pseudo-strain yeast Saccharomycopsis fibuligera NM02 and 01 strain of filamentous fungi Rhizopus microsporus NS04.

Antimicrobial resistance is an emerging challenge for health personnel and researchers. In such scenario, alternative strategies targeting novel ways to kill or inhibit growth of microbes are need of the hour. Antimicrobial peptide can be a promising candidate to deal with this crisis. In the course of trying to understand the pathogenesis of leishmaniasis in relation to extracellular matrix (ECM) elements, laminin, a major ECM protein, has been found to bind saturably and with high affinity to a 67-kDa cell surface protein of Leishmania donovani. This interaction involves a single class of binding sites, which are ionic in nature, conformation-dependent and possibly involves sulfhydryls. We report here the full coding sequence of a novel mouse putative membrane-associated mucin containing three extracellular EGF-like motifs and a mucin-like domain consisting of at least 20 tandem repeats of 124–126 amino acids. Screening a cosmid and a BAC libraries allowed to isolate several genomic clones. Genomic and cDNA sequence comparisons showed that the gene consists of 25 exons and 24 introns covering a genomic region of  52 kb. The first intron is  16 kb in length and is followed by an unusually large exon ( 9.5 kb) encoding Ser/Thr-rich tandemly repeated sequences....

The effect of the extracellular chaperone, clusterin, on amyloid fibril formation by lipid-free human apolipoprotein C-II (apoC-II) was investigated. Sub-stoichiometric levels of clusterin, derived from either plasma or semen, potently inhibit amyloid formation by apoC-II. Inhibition is dependent on apoC-II concentration, with more effective inhibition by clusterin observed at lower concentrations of apoC-II. gp130 is the common signal transducing receptor subunit of interleukin (IL)-6-type cytokines. gp130 either homodimerizes in response to IL-6 and IL-11 or forms heterodimers with the leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) receptor (LIFR) in response to LIF, oncostatin M (OSM), ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1) or cardiotrophinlike cytokine resulting in the onset of cytoplasmic tyrosine phosphorylation cascades. Intracellular pH homeostasis in the filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger was measured in real time by 31P NMR during perfusion in the NMR tube of fungal biomass immobilized in Ca2+-alginate beads. The fungus maintained constant cytoplasmic pH (pHcyt) and vacuolar pH (pHvac) values of 7.6 and 6.2, respectively, when the extracellular pH (pHex) was varied between 1.5 and 7.0 in the presence of citrate. Intracellular metabolism did not collapse until a DpH over the cytoplasmic membrane of 6.6–6.7 was reached (pHex 0.7–0.8).

A series of chimeric receptors was generated between the epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor, ErbB-1, and its homologue, ErbB-4, to investigate the roles of the extracellular domains (I–IV) in the ligand specificities. As compared with ErbB-1 and the chimeras with both domains I and III of ErbB-1, the chimeras with only one of these domains exhibited reduced binding of 125I-labeled EGF. Particularly, the contribution of domain III was appreciably larger than that of domain I of ErbB-1 in 125I-labeled EGF binding.

The Na + /H + exchanger is a ubiquitous membrane protein of bacteria, plants and mammals. The first isoform discov-ered (NHE1) is present on the mammalian plasma mem-brane and transports oneH + out of cells inexchange for one extracellular Na + . With solubilization in standard SDS/ PAGE buffer, this protein had a high tendency to aggregate when subjected to elevated temperature. The aggregates were stable and did not dissociate in high concentrations of SDSor 2-mercaptoethanol.
