Thin layer chromatography and column chromatography were performed from the ethyl acetate extraction of the bark stem of Phyllanthus acidus, and six terpenoids were isolated, including four diterpenes and two triterpenes. Their names were phyllanthol (1), 19-acetoxy-16α, 17- dihydroxy-ent-kaurane (2), 16α, 17-dihydroxy-ent-kaurane (3), 16α,17-acetonide-3αhydroxykauran (4), maslinic acid (5) and phyllane A (6).

In this study, behaviors of gas inside the extraction chromatography column were investigated through experiments and Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. N2 gas once accumulated as bubbles in the packed bed was hardly discharged by the flow of mobile phase.

Glycosphingolipids (GSLs) were purified from adults and plerocercoids of the tapeworm Diphyllobothrium hottai, and their chemical structures were determined. Total lipid fractions prepared from chloroform/methanol extracts of whole tissues were fractionated successively on ion-exchange chromatography, silicic acid column chromatography, and preparative TLC. The purified GSLs were characterized by methylation analysis, TLC-immunostaining, liquid secondary ion MS, MALDI-TOF MS, and 1H-NMR.

The polar glycolipids were isolated from the thermophilic bacteriaMeiothermus taiwanensisATCC BAA-400 by eth-anol extraction and purified by Sephadex LH-20 and silica gel column chromatography. The fatty acid composition of O-acyl groups in the glycolipids was obtained by gas chro-matography mass spectroscopy analysis on their methyl esters derived from methanolysis and was made mainly of C15:0(34.0%) andC17:0(42.3%) fattyacids,withthemajority as branched fatty acids (over 80%).
