Flavonoids, a diverse group of secondary metabolites, are known for their health-promoting properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. Phyllanthus amarus is a medicinal plant with extensive traditional use and it is a rich source of flavonoids. This study aimed to elucidate the gene expression in flavonoid biosynthesis in P. amarus.

Phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PI-PLC) has been known as one of the key enzymes that involved in the phospholipid hydrolysis. However, the PI-PLC family in cassava has not been fully recorded. In this study, a comprehensive analysis of the PI-PLC family in cassava assembly has been performed based on various bioinformatics tools.

Studies on nanoparticle-protein interaction have also not been studied. This would give information on ratio influence on the structural alteration of EGCg in EGCg-AuNPs and its functionality in vivo. Herein, the optimisation of EGCg-AuNPs will be determined with a large pool of stoichiometric synthesises of gold and EGCg. These optimised EGCg-AuNPs would then be studied with bovine serum albumin (BSA) for protein interactions, binding and thermodynamics.

The transcription factor serum response factor (SRF) regulates expression of growth factor-dependent genes and muscle-specific genes in vertebrates. Homologous factors regulate differentiation of some ectodermic tissues in invertebrates. To explore the molecular basis of these different physiological functions, the functionality of human, Drosophila melanogaster and Artemia franciscana SRFs in mammalian cells has been compared in this article. D. melanogaster and, to a lesser extend, A.

In this study we describe the isolation of three genes of the CYP11B family of the guinea pig. CYP11B1 codes for the previously described 11b-hydroxylase [Bulow, H.E., Mobius, ¨ ¨ K., Bahr, V. & Bernhardt, R. (1996) Biochem. Biophys. Res. ¨ Commun. 221, 304–312] while CYP11B2 represents the aldosterone synthase gene. As no expression for CYP11B3 was detected this gene might represent a pseudogene.

The Sp family is a family of transcription factors that bind to cis-elements in the promoter regions of various genes. Regulation of transcription by Sp proteins is based on interactions between a GC-rich binding site (GGGCGG) in DNA and C-terminal zinc finger motifs in the proteins. In this study, we characterized the GC-rich promoter of the gene for the DNA methyltransferase (Dnmt1) that is responsible for methylation of cytosine residues in mammals and plays a role in gene silencing.

Mucopolysaccharidosis type I (MPS I) results from a deficiency in the enzyme a-L-iduronidase (IDUA), and is characterized by skeletal abnormalities, hepatosplenomegaly and neurological dysfunction. In this study, we used a late generation lentiviral vector to evaluate the utility of this vector system for the transfer and expression of the human IDUA cDNA in MPS I fibroblasts. We observed that the level of enzyme expression in transduced cells was 1.5-fold the level found in normal cells; the expression persisted for at least two months....

Two ORFs, cphA and cphB, encoding proteins CphA and CphB with strong similarities to plant phytochromes and to the cyanobacterial phytochrome Cph1 of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 have been identified in the filamentous cyanobacterium Calothrix sp. PCC7601. While CphA carries a cysteine within a highly conserved amino-acid sequence motif, to which the chromophore phytochromobilin is covalently bound in plant phytochromes, in CphB this position is changed into a leucine.

The siglecs (sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectins) are a distinct subset of the Ig superfamily with adhesion-molecule-like structure. We describe here a novel member of the siglec protein family that shares a similar structure including five Ig-like domains, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail containing two ITIM-signaling motifs. Siglec10 was identified through database mining of an asthmatic eosinophil EST library. Using the Stanford G3 radiation hybrid panel we were able to localize the genomic sequence of siglec-10 within the cluster of genes on chromosome 19q13.

Phenylacetaldehyde reductase (PAR) produced by styreneassimilating Corynebacterium strain ST-10 was used to synthesize chiral alcohols. This enzyme with a broad substrate range reduced various prochiral aromatic ketones and b-ketoesters to yield optically active secondary alcohols with an enantiomeric purity of more than 98% enantiomeric excess (e.e.). The Escherichia coli recombinant cells which expressed the par gene could efficiently produce important pharmaceutical intermediates;

During the development of multicellular organisms, both transient and stable gene expression patterns have to be established in a precisely orchestrated sequence. Evidence from diverse model organisms indicates that this epigenetic program involves not only transcription factors, but also the local structure, composition, and modification of chromatin, which define and maintain the accessibility and transcriptional competence of the nucleosomal DNA template.

Sugar conjugation is a major pathway for the inactivation and excretion of both endogenous and exogenous compounds. We report here the molecular cloning and functional characterization of a phenol UDP-glucosyltransferase (UGT) from the silkworm, Bombyx mori, which was named BmUGT1. The complete cDNA clone is 1.6 kb, and the gene is expressed in several tissues of fifth-instar larvae, including fat body, midgut, integument, testis, silk gland and haemocytes. The predicted protein comprises 520 amino acids and has 30% overall amino-acid identity with other members of the UGT family.

A differential display method was used to study genes the expression of which is altered during growth inhibition induced by medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA). A tran-script of G-protein-coupled receptor 30 (GPR30) was upregulated by MPA in estrogen-treated MCF-7 breast cancer cells. Northern-blot analysis showed a progestin-specific primary target gene, which was enhanced by prog-esterone and different progestins, but not by dihydrotestos-terone or dexamethasone, and which was abrogated by antiprogestin RU486....

The 26S proteasome, a protein complex consisting of a 20S proteasome and a pair of 19S regulatory particles (RP), is involved in ATP-dependent proteolysis in eukaryotes. In yeast, theRP contains six different ATPase subunits and, at least, 11 non-ATPase subunits. In this study, we identi®ed the rice homologs of yeast RP subunit genes from the rice expressed sequence tag (EST) library.

Ectopic UCP1 in white fat of aP2-Ucp1micemitigates development of obesity byboth, increasing energy expenditure anddecreasingin situ lipogenesis. At least four mouseAdhgenes are known to encode dierent enzyme classes that share less than 60% amino-acid sequence iden-tity.
