Chronic liver disease has a high global burden and death toll. Early diagnosis is important to halt disease progression to cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and eventually death. At present, there are many methods used for liver disease assessment, such as liver biopsy, elastography, serum biomarkers, and surrogate markers.

Bài viết trình bày ung thư biểu mô tế bào gan dạng sarcôm (Sarcomatoid Hepatocellular Carcinoma – SHCC) là một loại u gan nguyên phát ác tính hiếm gặp. Bên cạnh vùng biệt hoá biểu mô dạng tế bào gan rõ trên mô bệnh học, SHCC còn có vùng biệt hoá dạng sarcôm với các tế bào u hình thoi. SHCC thường tiến triển nhanh, dễ tái phát và di căn xa.

Regulators of G protein signaling (RGS) proteins modulate G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling networks by terminating signals produced by active Gα subunits. RGS17, a member of the RZ subfamily of RGS proteins, is typically only expressed in appreciable amounts in the human central nervous system, but previous works have shown that RGS17 expression is selectively upregulated in a number of malignancies, including lung, breast, prostate, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Tumour necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) has attractedmuch attention because of its ability to kill tumour cells. In this study, we demonstrated that treatment of QGY-7703 cells with the combination of TRAIL and etoposide resulted in synergistic cytotoxic effects. In dissecting the mechanism underlying this syner-gistic effect, we found that treatment with etoposide alone resulted in the upregulation of Bax, while the level of trun-catedBid (tBid)wasunchanged.

HIP/PAP is a C-type lectin overexpressed in hepatocel-lular carcinoma (HCC). Pleiotropic biological activities have been ascribed to this protein, but little is known about the function of HIP/PAP in the liver. In this study, therefore, we searched for proteins interacting with HIP/PAP by screening a HCC cDNA expression library. We have identified the RIIa regulatory subunit of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) as a partner of HIP/PAP. HIP/PAP and RIIa were coimmunoprecipi-tated in HIP/PAP expressing cells. ...

Pyruvate is located at a crucial crossroad of cellular metabolism between the aerobic and anaerobic pathways. Modulation of the fate of pyruvate, in one direction or another, can be important for adaptative response to hypoxia followed by reoxygenation.

Hepatitis C virus is a human pathogen responsible for liver diseases includ-ing acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Its high prevalence, the absence of a prophylactic vaccine and the poor effi-ciency of current therapies are huge medical problems. Since the discovery of the hepatitis C virus, our knowledge of its biology has been largely punctuated by the development of original models of research.

Vitamin K2(menaquinone-4, MK-4) has been reported to induce apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma, leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome cell lines. The effects of MK-4 on the development of arthritis have never been addressed thus far. In the present study, we investigated the effect of MK-4 upon the proliferation of rheumatoid synovial cells and the development of arthritis in collagen-induced arthritis.

Urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) and c-met play a major role in cancer invasion and metastasis. Evidence has suggested that uPA and c-met overexpression may be coordinated in human hepatocellular carci-noma (HCC). In the present study, to understand whether the expression of these genes might be coregulated by specific microRNAs (miRs) in human cells, we predicted thatHomo sapiensmicroRNA-23b could recog-nize two sites in the 3¢-UTR of uPA and four sites in the c-met 3¢-UTR by the algorithm pictar. ...

The tyrosine kinase expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (Tec) is a non-receptor protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) that is expressed in hematopoietic cells, such as B and T lymphocytes, myeloid lineage cells and neutrophils. Mutations in the humanBtkgene cause X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA), but the corresponding mutation in mice results in a much milder defect.

Because of the asymptomatic process of carcinogenesis, the early detection of cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is very challenging. Tumor-prone transgenic mouse models of oncogenesis can provide a stable and powerful tool for the analysis of cancer initiation, and are therefore promising for the discovery of early putative biomarkers of HCC.
