Regulator of G-protein signaling (RGS) proteins were originally identified as negative regulators of G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling via their GTPase-accelerating protein (GAP) activity. All RGS proteins contain evolutionarily conserved RGS domain; however, they differ in their size and regulatory domains. RGS1 and RGS10 are smaller than other RGS proteins, and their functions involve various inflammatory responses including autoimmune responses in both the periphery and the central nervous system (CNS). Neuroinflammation is the chronic inflammatory response in the CNS.

Three separate experiments were carried out to assess combined effects of temperature and salinity and induced stress on blood variables of Tra catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) fingerlings. Some hematological parameters included Haemoglobin concentration, glucose and pH levels which were tested in different conditions. The experiment 1 aimed to test how blood variables change in different temperature (24, 28-30, 32 oC) and salinity (0, 6 and 12 ppt) while the experiment 2 induced catfish fingerlings to different stress time (5, 15 and 30 min.).

An immuno-homologue of maize Ca2+/calmodulin (CaM)dependent protein kinase with a molecular mass of 72 kDa was identified in pea. The pea kinase (PsCCaMK) was upregulated in roots in response to low temperature and increased salinity. Here we show, for the ®rst time, thein vitro formation of ®lamentous aggregates of phosphorylated tau protein in SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells. The formation of suchaberrant aggregates, similar to thoseoccurringinvivoin Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies, requires okadaic acid, a phosphatase inhibitor, to increase the level of phos-phorylated tau, and hydroxynonenal, a product of oxidative stress that selectively adducts and modi®es phosphorylated tau.

The role of oxidative stress in pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus was investigated by measuring lipid peroxidation level, nitrite content, GSH con-centration, and superoxide dismutase and catalase activities in the hippo-campus of Wistar rats. The control group was subcutaneously injected with 0.9% saline. The experimental group received pilocarpine (400 mgÆkg )1 , subcutaneous). Both groups were killed 24 h after treatment.

In mammals, cytochrome P450 17a-hydroxylase⁄17–20 lyase (CYP17), which is encoded by a single gene, plays a critical role in the production of mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids and androgens by the adrenal cortex. Two CYP17 isoforms with unique catalytic properties have been identified in the South African Angora goat (Capra hircus), a subspecies that is susceptible to cold stress because of the inability of the adrenal cortex to produce sufficient levels of cortisol.
