This article examines the linguistic differences between young men and women, exploring how gender influences language use among youth. Youth language, characterized by its dynamic, innovative, and informal nature, reflects group identity and resistance toadult norms. Gender plays a significant role in shaping these linguistic patterns, influencing speech styles, vocabulary, and nonverbal communication.

The focus of this study is on two of these factors: gender stereotyping and bullying. Gender stereotypes are the beliefs and attitudes that are presumed to distinguish between women and men (Rollero, Glick & Tartaglia, 2014), while bullying can be referred to as the repeated acts of an individual or group with the intention to harman individual holding an inferior position of power (Goldsmid & Howie 2014). While these two separate issues can occur independent of one another and in combination, gender based stereotyping and bullying both form critical barriers to female professionals.

Using a case study of Raglai ethnic families in Khanh Son, Khanh Vinh districts and Cam Ranh City (Khanh Hoa province), the paper initially explores the decision-making power of men and women in matriarchal families under the infl uences of the reformand integration process. The survey results show that the status, role and power of the wife and the husband in the family have changed considerably towards a positive trend.

This study investigates men and women’s representations in TV advertisements in Vietnam from a multimodal critical discourse analysis perspective. The data comprise of almost one hundred TV advertisements aired on principle TV channels in Vietnam such as VTV and HTV. The framework in use is Fairclough’s (2001), in which part of Kress and van Leeuwen’s visual grammar (1996) is incorporated for a multimodal discourse analysis of the advertisements.
