National identity

The study analyzes images that have been cultivated by ancient cultural memories to become Korean cultural symbols, such as the model of women, the space containing the sediments of the times, and the way of life in daily activities and beliefs as a model of practice. Through that, the research wants to clarify the two major functions of these cultural symbols: shaping the national cultural identity and becoming a measure of valuation for contemporary perceptions of human dignity.

The paper sheds light on the adaptation of a literary work reaching the pinnacle of Vietnamese medieval written literature in the context of the regional and Vietnam's particular traditional culture through decoding the creative process of Nguyen Du's The Tale of Kieu - a symbol of Vietnamese national culture. The paper shows how a literary work has become a national literary peak and the image of The Tale of Kieu becomes a symbol of national consciousness, the spirit of cultural nationalization.
