Trong ngành in ấn trước đây, để chỉ thị cho thợ in sắp chữ trong văn bản, tác giả hay chủ bút thường vẽ các vòng tròn trong bản thảo và chú thích bằng một ngôn ngữ, tương tự tốc kí.
