  • he study uses Best Track Data in the Western North Pacific region from 1961 to 2020. The wind speed fields of all TCs over the coastal zones are calculated using a semi-empirical model with a square grid of 0.05° resolution. The results show that the frequencies of TCs over the coastal zones decrease during El Niño years, whilethe TC intensities increase significantly compared to those in Neutral years. Meanwhile, TC intensities over all coastal zones during La Niña years, and some coastal zones during El Niño years, decrease significantly compared to those in Neutral years.

  • The studies involving water bugs (Hemiptera) biodiversity and ecology are very few and have mainly focused on taxonomy. We conducted research and evaluation of diversity indexes of water bugs (Hemiptera) in different landscapes including forest habitats, agricultural lands, ponds, streams from 16 sampling sites in Bac Kan, Lao Cai, Ninh Binh and Ha Tinh provinces. As a result, a total of 43 species of 23 genera of 10 families were recorded.

  • Forest fires present a significant threat to the tropical forest ecosystem in the northwestern region of Vietnam. Our study aimed to assess the impacts of environmental factors on forest fire occurrence and to map forest fire probability for the whole region. The forest fire occurrence data over the period 2003–2016, environmental factors (climate, fuel condition, topography, and human activity), and the MaxEnt approach were used for this study.

  • In this thesis, the rolling contact wear of 52100 bearing steel and Over-aged Magnesia-Partially-Stabilised Zirconia (OA-Mg-PSZ) ceramic are examined using a newly developed rolling contact wear test rig. The new wear test rig simulates the system geometry of an un-lubricated hybrid (ceramic and steel) ball bearing. The new wear test rig is versatile in that it allows low cost samples to be utilised resulting in a larger number of samples that can be tested.

  • In the multi-dimensional model of data warehouses, data drawn from multiple sources is organized into fact tables and dimension tables. Data cubes pre-compute the aggregations of measurements along combinations of dimensions to speed up the processing of Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) queries. When the underlying fact tables or dimension tables change over time, data cubes need to be incrementally maintained to reflect these changes. In this thesis, we study the problem of incrementally maintaining data cubes under slowly changing dimensions.

  • This paper delves into the realms of tragedy, memory and representation. Drawing upon the phenomenon of the Phantom Limb and extending it towards a theory of Phantom Bodies, various artworks - literary, theatrical and visual - are examined. After the conflagration of the terrorist attack, how are these absences grieved over and remembered through artistic representation? The essay examines this question by positioning itself amongst the scarred landscapes of post-September 11 New York and suicide bombings in Israel (2000-2006).
