  • Garnet-bearing xenoliths are observed within a trachytic dome extrusion in the Hisarlıkaya region (Ankara). These garnets exhibiting greenish-reddish-dark brown colour and ranging in sizes up to 1 cm were examined in terms of mineralogical, geochemical, and gemmological characteristics. Mineralogical studies indicate that these garnets (And88-93 Grs7-12) are linked to solid solution series, which are dominantly andradite with lower content of grossular. According to major, trace, and rare earth element (REE) analysis

  • Chickpea wilt caused by F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceri is one of the most important seed and soil-borne disease in India. The study on association of the pathogen with chickpea seeds showed that the viable mycelium fragments, micro and macro-conidia of the pathogen were present on the seed surface of all susceptible and two resistant varieties/ germplasms in seed washing test. The pathogen was recovered from the untreated and sodium hypochlorite treated seeds of all susceptible varieties/ germplasms in the range of 10.67– 18.67 and 5.33–11.

  • Schistosomiasis is an endemic disease in Egypt caused by the trematode Schistosoma which has different species. c the best known form of chronic disease with a wide range of clinical manifestations. The pathogenesis of schistosomiasis is related to the host cellular immune response. This leads to granuloma formation and neo angiogenesis with subsequent periportal fibrosis manifested as portal hypertension, splenomegaly and esophageal varices. Intestinal schistosomiasis is another well identified form of chronic schistosomal affection.

  • Casein kinases I (CKI) are serine/threonine protein kinases widely expressed in a range of eukaryotes including yeast, mammals and plants. They have been shown to play a role in diverse physiological events including membrane trafficking. CKIa is associated with synaptic vesicles and phosphorylates some synaptic vesicle associated proteins including SV2. In this report, we show that syntaxin-1A is phosphorylated in vitro by CKI on Thr21.

  • Humanb2 -glycoprotein I (b2 GPI), also known as apolipo-protein H, has been implicated in haemostasis and the pro-duction ofanti-phospholipid antibodies. There is a wide range ofinterindividual variation in b2GPI plasma levels that is thought to be under genetic control, but itsmolecular basis remains unknown. To understand the genetic basis of b2GPI variation, we analyzed the 5¢ flanking region ofthe b2GPIgene for mutation detection by DHPLC and identi-fied a point mutation at the transcriptional initiation site ()1CfiA) with a carrier frequency of 12.1%. ...

  • A search has been initiated for lead inhibitors of the non-structural protein 3 (NS3)-associated NTPase/helicase activities of hepatitis C virus, the related West Nile virus, Japanese encephalitis virus and the human mitochondrial Suv3 enzyme. Random screening of a broad range of unre-lated low-molecular mass compounds, employing both RNA and DNA substrates, revealed that 4,5,6,7-tetra-bromobenzotriazole (TBBT) hitherto known as a potent highly selective inhibitor of protein kinase 2,is a good inhibitor of the helicase, but not NTPase, activity of hepa-titis C virus NTPase/helicase. ...

  • We reported previously that the major cysteine protease in embryos and larvaeof thebrine shrimp,Artemia franciscana, is a heterodimeric protein consisting of a catalytic subunit (28.5 kDa) with a high degree of homology with cathep-sin L, and a noncatalytic subunit (31.5 kDa) of unknown function. In the study reportedhere thenoncatalytic subunit, or cathepsin L-associated protein (CLAP), was separated from cathepsin L by chromatography on Mono S and found tocontainmultiple isoformswithpIs ranging from5.9 to 6.1.

  • Gangliosides are sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipids present on mam-malian plasma membranes, where they participate in cell-surface events such as modulation of growth factor receptors and cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions. Antibodies to gangliosides have been associated with a wide range of clinically identifiable acute and chronic neuropathy syn-dromes.

  • In recent years, a considerable amount of research has been focused on estab-lishing the epigenetic mechanisms associated with DNA and the core histones. This effort is driven by the fact that epigenetics is intimately involved with genomics in a whole range of molecular processes. However, there is now a consensus that the epigenetics of the linker histones are just as important.

  • Harrison's Internal Medicine Chapter 135. Gas Gangrene and Other Clostridial Infections Definition Bacteria of the genus Clostridium are gram-positive, spore-forming, obligate anaerobes that are ubiquitous in nature. There are 60 recognized species of clostridia, many of which are generally considered saprophytic. Some of these species are pathogenic for humans and animals, particularly under conditions of lowered oxidation-reduction potential. Infections associated with these organisms range from localized wound contamination to overwhelming systemic disease.

  • Hello, in this module we are going to discuss wireless networking. Specifically, we'll take a look at how wireless technology works, how it is commonly deployed, and the security issues associated with using it. Because wireless communications can penetrate opaque objects such as buildings, the risk of someone accessing a private network increases markedly. With wireless, an attacker does not need to gain access to physical cables or jacks, but only needs to have an antenna and be within range of the transmissions....
