The relationship between ABO blood and EGFR mutations in lung adenocarcinoma is still unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between ABO blood and EGFR mutations percentage in patients with lung adenocarcinoma. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study, 276 lung adenocarcinoma patients were tested for EGFR mutations and ABO blood from January 2020 to April 2023.

Haematopoiesis, the differentiation of haematopoietic stem cells and progenitors into various lineages, involves complex interactions of transcription factors that modulate the expression of downstream genes and mediate proliferation and differentiation signals. Commitment of pluripotent haematopoietic stem cells to the erythroid lineage induces erythropoiesis, the production of red blood cells. This process involves a concerted progression through an erythroid burst forming unit (BFU-E), an erythroid colony forming unit (CFU-E), proerythroblast and an erythroblast....

Erythroid dematin is a major component of red blood cell junctional complexes that link the spectrin±actin cytoskel-eton to the overlying plasma membrane. Transcripts of dematinarewidelydistributed includinghumanbrain, heart, lung, skeletalmuscle, andkidney.Invitro, dematinbinds and bundles actin ®laments in a phosphorylation-dependent manner. The primary structure of dematin consists of a C-terminal domain homologous to theÔheadpieceÕ domain of villin, an actin-binding protein of the brush border cyto-skeleton. ...

The merozoite surface protein-1 represents a prime candi-date for development of a malaria vaccine. Merozoite sur-face protein-1 has been shown to demonstrate high-activity peptide binding to human red blood cells. One of the high-activity binding peptides, named 5501, located in the N-terminus (amino acid sequence MLNISQHQCVKKQ CPQNS) of the 19-kDa molecular mass fragment of mero-zoite surface protein-1, is conserved, nonimmunogenic and nonprotective.

Intercellular adhesion molecule-4 (ICAM-4, LW blood group antigen), a member of the immunoglobulin super-familyexpressed on red cells, has been reported to bind to CD11a/CD18 and CD11b/CD18 leukocyte integrins. The location of the ICAM-4 binding sites on CD11a/CD18 and CD11b/CD18 are not known. CD11/CD18 integrin I domains have been found to act as major binding sites for physiological ligands and a negatively charged glutamic acid in ICAMs is considered important for binding.

The high water permeability of certain biological membranes is due to the presence of aquaporin water channel proteins. AQP1 was discovered in human red cells. AQP1 has been thoroughly characterized biophysically, and the atomic structure of AQP1 has been elucidated. Ten homologs have been identified in humans. These are selectively permeated by water (aquaporins) or water plus glycerol (aquaglyceroporins). The sites of expres-sion predict the clinical phenotypes in humans. Individuals lack-ing Colton blood group antigens have mutations in the AQP1 gene. ...

Although ubiquitously expressed, the transcriptional factor CP2 also exhib-its some tissue- or stage-specific activation toward certain genes such as globin in red blood cells and interleukin-4 in T helper cells. Because this specificity may be achieved by interaction with other proteins, we screened a peptide display library and identified four consensus motifs in numerous CP2-binding peptides: HXPR, PHL, ASR and PXHXH. Protein-database searching revealed that RE-1 silencing factor (REST), Yin-Yang1 (YY1) and five other proteins have one or two of these CP2-binding motifs....

Much of the toxicity of Hb has been linked to its redox activity; Hb may generate reactive oxygen species, such as the superoxide anion. Superoxide is intrinsically toxic, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) provides important cellular protection. However, if the Hb molecule is located outside the red blood cell, the normal protection systems involving SOD and catalase are no longer closely associated with it, exposing Hb and its cellular surround

Numerous top-down kinetic models have been constructed to describe the cell cycle. These models have typically been constructed, validated and ana-lyzed using model species (molecular intermediates and proteins) and phe-notypic observations, and therefore do not focus on the individual model processes (reaction steps).

One of the least recognized causes of cellular damage duringex vivopreser-vation of red blood cells is oxidative injury to the hemoglobin. The latter has been associated with hemolysis through the release of toxic substances and oxidation of vital cell components.

Agglutination of red blood cells (RBCs), including chicken RBCs (cRBCs), has been used extensively to estimate viral titer, to screen glycan-receptor binding preference, and to assess the protective response of vaccines. Although this assay enjoys widespread use, some virus strains do not agglutinate RBCs.

Glutathione (GSH) is an intracellular antioxidant synthesized from gluta-mate, cysteine and glycine. The human erythrocyte (red blood cell, RBC) requires a continuous supply of glutamate to prevent the limitation of GSH synthesis in the presence of sufficient cysteine, but the RBC membrane is almost impermeable to glutamate.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is present in many tissues; its presence in serum may be related to certain inflammatory conditions, tissue damage, sepsis, liver malfunction and some malignancies. In the present work, our goal was to investigate the significance of hyaluronic acid effect on erythrocyte flow properties. Therefore we performed in vitro experiments incubating red blood cells (RBCs) with several HA concentrations. Afterwards, in order to corroborate the pathophysiological significance of the results obtained, we replicated the in vitro...
