Characteristic of the human is that his desire is never ended, except on short time. When one desire is satisfied, another one comes into the foreground. And it is true for the whole life of man. Thus, it is very important to study and understand the nature and relationship of all motivations by the broad standing of human needs. Adair, J. 2006. The aim of this thesis is to identify leadership literacies for professional staff working in universities. The rationale for this inquiry, at its heart, is about individuals and their capacity to change and influence wider groupings, be they leaders or followers within knowledge-intensive enterprises. The overarching drivers of this thesis are the interrelationships between leadership, language, literacies and learning as the means to make these cognitive shifts.

This study explores the way in which Primary School Principals perceive and experience emotions in their day-to-day lives. To understand the varying elements of school leadership a qualitative research approach using semi-structured interviews was used, which was appropriate due to the social and psychological nature of the topic being studied. Two interviews were conducted a year apart with participants to provide a detailed examination of the participants’ experiences and to gain deeper insights into their perceptions of emotions in their work.

This research found that local government, especially in remote and disadvantaged areas is the face of all government in the eyes of the residents. State and Federal Governments have high expectations and compliance regimes, but local government has limited capacity and resources to effectively meet these legitimate demands and also respond to the demands of the local residents and citizens. The lack of financial resources is exacerbated by limited human resource capacity, especially in the Glenelg Shire, the 5th worst local government area in the state in terms of education and occupation.

This research addresses the call for future research by Brown and Treviño (2014) and Resick et al. (2006) to expand on ethical leadership research into other cultures. They believed employees in organisations use their ethical and cultural value systems as an absolute standard against which to measure the behaviour of members of the other culture, or they adopt the norms of the other culture. Previous studies have demonstrated several gaps within the ethical leadership literature; this research will address these gaps.
