  • Regulator of G protein signaling (RGS) proteins are gatekeepers regulating the cellular responses induced by G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR)-mediated activation of heterotrimeric G proteins. Specifically, RGS proteins determine the magnitude and duration of GPCR signaling by acting as a GTPase-activating protein for Gα subunits, an activity facilitated by their semiconserved RGS domain. The R7 subfamily of RGS proteins is distinguished by two unique domains, DEP/DHEX and GGL, which mediate membrane targeting and stability of these proteins.

  • Colloidal silver nanoparticles were synthesized by Co-60 ray irradiation of Ag+ in aqueous solution containing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as stabilizer and 0.5 M ethyl alcohol as free radical (OH• ) scavenger. The effect of Ag+ concentration which varied from 1 to 50 mM on the saturated conversion dose (D) of Ag+ into Ag determined by UV-vis spectroscopy and the size of Ag nanoparticles characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were investigated. The dependence of D (kGy) and average size (d, nm) of Ag nanoparticles on Ag+ concentration was found out to be as: D (kGy) = 0.

  • Kumamolisin-As is an acid collagenase with a subtilisin-like fold. Its active site contains a unique catalytic triad, Ser278-Glu78-Asp82, and a putative transition-state stabilizing residue, Asp164. In this study, the mutants D164N and E78H⁄D164N were engineered in order to replace parts of the catalytic machinery of kumamolisin-As with the residues found in the equivalent positions in subtilisin.

  • Equinatoxin II is a cytolytic protein isolated from the sea anemoneActi-nia equina. It is a member of the actinoporins, a family of eukaryotic pore-forming toxins with a unique mechanism of pore formation. Equinatoxin II is a 20 kDa cysteineless protein, with sphingomyelin-dependent activity. Recent studies showed that the N-terminal region of the molecule requires conformational flexibility during pore formation.

  • Current theories agree that there appears to be no unique feature responsi-ble for the remarkable heat stability properties of hyperthermostable pro-teins. A concerted action of structural, dynamic and other physicochemical attributes are utilized to ensure the delicate balance between stability and functionality of proteins at high temperatures.

  • Stabilization Programs, Monetary Policy and Exchange Rate Movements in Emerging Markets Economies I use a unique data set consisting of observations on more than 300,000 metropolitan SAT takers from the 1994 cohort, matched to the high schools that students attended. The size of this sample permits accurate estimation of both peer quality and average performance for the great majority of high schools in each of 177 metropolitan housing markets. I find no evidence that the association between peer group and student performance is stronger in high-choice than in low-choice markets....

  • Protocols for wireless applications Wireless data networks present a more constrained communication environment compared to wired networks. Because of fundamental limitations of power, available spectrum, and mobility, wireless data networks tend to have less bandwidth than traditional networks, more latency than traditional networks, less connection stability than other network technologies, and less predictable availability.

  • Stability Issues in RNN Architectures Perspective The focus of this chapter is on stability and convergence of relaxation realised through NARMA recurrent neural networks. Unlike other commonly used approaches, which mostly exploit Lyapunov stability theory, the main mathematical tool employed in this analysis is the contraction mapping theorem (CMT), together with the fixed point iteration (FPI) technique. This enables derivation of the asymptotic stability (AS) and global asymptotic stability (GAS) criteria for neural relaxive systems.
