This study presents a new proposal for gemstone color classification and integrates hardware to enable gemstone color assessment based on this new system. This allows for a quantified measurement of gemstone color, providing a visual description.

The purpose of this thesis is to study and synthesize BiMO materials (M = V,Ti,Sn) by microwaveassisted chemical method, hydrothermal method, sol-gel method and evaluate their physical properties. Reactionof certainpeptides andproteinswithsingletoxygen (generated by visible light in the presence of rose bengal dye) yields long-lived peptide and protein peroxides. Incubation of these peroxides with glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehy-drogenase, in the absence of addedmetal ions, results in loss of enzymatic activity. Comparative studies with a range of peroxides have shown that this inhibition is concentration, peroxide, and time dependent, with H2O2less ecient than some peptide peroxides.

Photodynamic treatment (PDT) is an emerging therapeutic procedure for the management of cancer, based on the use of photosensitizers, compounds that generate highly reactive oxygen species (ROS) on irradiation with visible light. The ROS generated may oxidize a variety of bio-molecules within the cell, loaded with a photosensitizer. With the use of photoresponsive T7 promoters tethering two 2¢-methylazo-benzenes or 2¢,6¢-dimethylazobenzenes, highly efficient photoregulation of DNA transcription was obtained. After UV-A light irradiation (320–400 nm), the rate of transcription with T7 RNA polymerase and a photoresponsive promoter involving two 2¢,6¢-dimethylazobenzenes was 10-fold faster than that after visible light irradiation (400–600 nm).
