Written translation

This paper presents a study into difficulties in English – Vietnamese translation faced by English-majored students. Although basic knowledge of English with four main skills is delivered to the students at the beginning of their academic courses at university, translation in general causes tons of troubles for them.

This thesis was done with a view to find out students‟ difficulties in learning written translation in order to orient students who begin to study this subject in good manner of study. the study also aims at understanding the students‟ expectation in learning the subject and then suggesting some possible solutions to overcome difficulties as well as satisfy their expectations to improve and adjust both learning‟s style and teaching method.

This thesis has been done in an effort to investigate how euphemism is translated from English into Vietnamese in translated works as well as to find out what are the main approaches taken by translators in translating euphemism from English into Vietnamese. A collection of samples taken from literary works written in English and their Vietnamese versions have been analyzed to explore ways in which euphemisms are transferred. Besides, quantitative analyses have also been carried out to show distribution of ways of translating, on the basis of which to identify preferences....
