To evаluаte 18FDG PET-CT for the prediction of overаll survivаl in pаtients with smаll cell lung cаncer аfter concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Methods: Forty pаtients with pаthologicаlly proven stаge III аnd III SCLC hаd FDG PET-CT scаns before concurrent chemorаdiotherаpy. The mаximum stаndаrdized uptаke vаlue (SUVmаx) of the primаry lung lesion wаs cаlculаted.

To evaluate the diagnostic value of PTGER4 (Prostaglandin E Receptor 4) gene methylation in plasma for lung cancer detection compared to healthy controls. Methods: A cross-sectional, case-control study was conducted on 149 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients and 100 healthy individuals. Peripheral blood samples were collected for PTGER4 methylation analysis using real-time methylation-specific PCR (MSP).

The images of diffuse lung involvement are seen in various respiratory diseases, including lung adenocarcinoma (ADC). After ruling out acute infectious causes, lung biopsy is valuable for a definitive diagnosis, with transbronchial biopsy via flexible bronchoscopy being an effective and safe diagnostic approach.

To evaluate the prevalence of sarcopenia and its associated factors in lung cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at a tertiary hospital in Vietnam. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 89 lung cancer patients. Sarcopenia was assessed using the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) 2019 criteria, including measurements of handgrip strength (HGS), appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM), and physical performance.

Regulators of G protein signaling (RGS) proteins modulate G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling networks by terminating signals produced by active Gα subunits. RGS17, a member of the RZ subfamily of RGS proteins, is typically only expressed in appreciable amounts in the human central nervous system, but previous works have shown that RGS17 expression is selectively upregulated in a number of malignancies, including lung, breast, prostate, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

We report the biochemical characterization of calhepatin, a calcium-binding protein of the S100 family, isolated from lungfish (Lepidosiren paradoxa) liver. The primary structure, determined by Edman degradation and MS/MS, shows that the sequence identities with the other members of the family are lower than those between S100 proteins from different species. Calhepatin is composed of 75 residues and has a molecular mass of 8670 Da. It is smaller than calbindin D9k (78 residues), the smallest S100 described so far....

Exposure to quartz particles induces a pathological process named silicosis. Alveolar macrophages initiate the disease through their activation, which is the origin of the later dysfunctions. Ascorbic acid is known to selectively dissolve the quartz surface. During the reaction, ascorbic acid progressively disappears and hydroxyl radicals are generated from the quartz surface. These observations may be relevant to mammalian quartz toxicity, as sub-stantial amounts of ascorbic acid are present in the lung epithelium. ...

The multidrug resistance-associated protein transporter ABCC1 (MRP1) is an integral plasma membrane protein involved in the multidrug resistance phenotype. It actively expels a number of cytotoxic molecules from cells. To gain insight into the modulation of the functional properties of this integral membrane protein by cholesterol, a main component of the lipid bilayer, we used multidrug-resistant GLC4⁄ADR cells,

Integrin b4 is a tissue-specific protein, but its role in autophagy of lung adenocarcinoma cells is not clear. In this study, we used microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 processing and acridine orange staining to reveal that knockdown of integrin b4 by its specific siRNA induced autophagic cell death in A549 lung cancer cells.

The transcription factor ZBP-89 has been implicated in the induction of growth arrest and apoptosis. In this article, we demonstrate that ZBP-89 was able to restrain senescence in NCI-H460 human lung cancer cells, through epigenetically regulating p16 INK4a expression.

a-defensins are released from granules of leukocytes and are implicated in inflammatory and fibrotic lung diseases. In the present study, the effects of a-defensins on the proliferation and collagen synthesis of lung fibroblasts were examined. We found thata-defensin-1 and a-defensin-2 induced dose-dependent increases in the incorporation of 5-bromo-2¢-deoxy-uridine into newly synthesized DNA in two lines of human lung fibroblasts (HFL-1 and LL-86)
