In this study, the Quantum-PSO (QPSO) method is proposed to enhance the global search performance and convergence ability of PSO by incorporating concepts from quantum mechanics. The QPSO method was tested alongside Binary PSO and PSO on the same grid model to compare these methods.

This research presents a detailed evaluation of the total active power loss (TAPL) under different placements of photovoltaic power plants (PVPs) in the electric distribution network (EDN) IEEE 33-node. Three study cases have been conducted to serve the initial intention, including 1) optimizing both rated power and position of a PVP on selected EDN; 2) optimizing the positions of different quantities of PVPs independently to the grid with the same rated power, and 3) optimizing a sole PVP with a wide range of rated power.

This thesis is dedicated to study how the charging behaviours of plug-in hybrid vehicles affect the local distribution network. This study focuses on two issues: the power loss and charging cost optimization. The multi-objective particle swarm optimization technique is applied to achieve the optimal charging schedule, resulting in acceptable additional power loss ratio and charging cost.

In this paper, the effects of the hot-spotted cell on PV module were evaluated. The experimental observation was based on 100 kW PV array composed of 20 PV modules. It was found that an increasing number of hot-spotted solar cells in a PV module would likely increase its output power loss.

The results of simulated transients for three typical PWR accidents are presented: a turbine trip with station blackout, a large break loss of coolant accident and a small break loss of coolant accident. The analyses show that the safety criteria are respected and that the reactor quickly reaches a safe shutdown state without operator action and external power.

Many industries, such as nuclear power plants, chemical industry, oil and gas industry have dangerous working environments and hazardous conditions for employees. Maintenance, inspection and decommissioning activities in these safety-critical areas mean a serious risk, downtime is a significant financial loss.

The thesis aims to propose the Heuristic method algorithm applied to the problem of power grid restructuring with the objective of reducing power loss in case of having / without distributed power source connecting to the distribution grid. Study the effect of distributed power source when connecting to the distribution grid, affecting the power grid restructuring problem.

Research targets of the thesis: (i) To thereticallystudy the overall characteristics of MIH and their impacts based on theoretical calculation (ii) To carry out experiments on the influence of alternating magnetic field, particle size and viscosity on specific loss power for CoFe2O4 and MnFe2O4, chosen as representative of respectively high K and low K magnetic nanoparticles; and to compare the experimental behavior with that obtained by theroretical calculations.

In Design of high density transformers for high frequency high power converters, the abovementioned issues of high-frequency transformers are explored, particularly in regards to high-power converter applications. Loss calculations accommodating resonant operating waveform and Litz wire windings are explored. Leakage inductance modeling for large-number-of-stand Litz wire windings is proposed. The optimal design procedure based on the models is developed.

RNA-mediated gene silencing (RNA interference) is a powerful way to knock down gene expression and has revolutionized the fields of cellular and molecular biology. Indeed, the transfection of cultured cells with small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) is currently considered to be the best and easi-est approach to loss-of-function experiments.

Coma: a state of unconsciousness from which the patient cannot be aroused, even by powerful stimuli. Traumatic brain injuries are the most frequent cause; other causes include severe uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, liver disease, kidney disease, and neurologic conditions Dementia: a general loss of mental abilities, including impairment of memory and often impairments in speech, coordination, ability to understand sensory stimuli, and other mental faculties.

Expanders are an essential component of leadracid batteries. They prevent performance losses in negative plates that would otherwise be caused by passivation and structural changes in the active material. The functions of the components of modern negative-plate expanders are described and data are presented to show how the capacity and life of the battery are affected by the type and amount of barium sulfate and lignin incorporated in the expander blend.
