The current study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using "Baamboozle" in enhancing student participation in EMI classes at a public university in Vietnam. Accordingly, there is a negative relationship between TA and student achievement. Academic under-achievement has been more prevalent among high-test anxiety students. Therefore, understanding test anxiety from students’ perspective would contribute to reducing negative TA and enhancing positive performance. This study utilized a quantitative approach with a survey questionnaire. The questionnaire, which was modified from the Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale (BPNSNF) by Van Der Kaap-Deeder et al. (2015), included 4 questions for providing informed consent before conducting the research together with collecting participants’ personal information, and 8 five-point Likert items.

The results show that students who studied the adapted version of the textbook performed better than their peers did without it. Though other uncontrollable factors are considered, the data and the teacher's perspective suggest that textbook adaptation can bolster students’ language proficiency.

This study examines cultural representation in the reading sections of an ELT textbook for 6th graders in Vietnam, employing two frameworks by Cortazzi & Jin (1999) and Moran (2001). The findings reveal that while the textbook attempts to cover a range of cultural sources and dimensions, it only skims the surface, with a predominant focus on source culture and a notable underrepresentation of target culture.
