This paper reports the influence of crystallization temperature and time on transformation of phlogopite to NaP1 and NaA zeolites. Samples were aged at room temperature within 96 hours, crystallized at 90 ÷ 140o C for 48 ÷ 96 hours in the presence of complexon (Co.) and NaOH and continuously stirred. The samples were estimated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), cation exchange capacity (CEC) and water adsorption.

NaP1 and NaA zeolites were synthesized from phlogopite taken in Yen Bai, Vietnam in the presence of organic complexons and NaOH. Na+-Montmorillonite (Na+-MMT) minerals were organically modified by adding different amounts of surfactant octadecylamine corresponding to the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the pristine montmorillonites. The characteristic of the organo-MMT were obtained by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy. The amount of added surfactant has direct effect on the interlayer separation and the organophicility-hydrophicility balance of MMT.
